Star of the Sea Swimming Carnival 2019

The annual school swimming carnival was held at Immanuel College, Novar Gardens last Wednesday. Once again we came away so impressed with the behaviour of our children, their ability to be self-managed and their enthusiastic spirit. The carnival was great fun and a wonderful display of swimming talent. Congratulations to all concerned, in particular we extend our thanks to our fantastic parents, for their support with the numerous officiating duties and support with transport.   The carnival truly was a team effort.  We also extend our appreciation to all the parents and friends who attended and cheered on the swimmers.

Well done to all of the House Leaders who led their teams.

Coolock House (red)                       164 pts
Fitzpatrick House (yellow)               174 pts
MacKillop House (green)                 175 pts
McAuley House (blue)                     292 pts

Congratulations to all of our swimmers for a great day.

From the Acting Principal

Hello friends,

I certainly feel as though this term is absolutely racing by and it is hard to believe that we are almost at the end of Week Three already.

There have certainly been lots of highlights already in this term for myself, including the Star of the Sea School Swimming Carnival and the beginning of year Whole School Mass last week.

I extend a hearty congratulations to the McCauley team on their victory in the Swimming Carnival it was certainly a close event with each team compiling a close tally.

I wholeheartedly congratulate all the competitors that took part in the swimming carnival as each individual student performed to the best of their ability and did themselves proud.

Spirit cup points continue to be accumulated over the course of this term and the Spirit Cup will be awarded to the winning team at Sports Day later this term. Congratulations to our team captains who led their teams admirably on the day.

From the Acting Deputy Principal

Week three is upon us and we have had an event filled start to the term. Our Swimming Carnival, Welcome Assembly and Welcome Mass last week were all wonderful celebrations. This week our SRC have met, our Reconciliation program was launched and we look forward to our Year one’s hosting our Parish Mass on Sunday. Students have settled into school, routines and classroom learning is up and going. Next week I warmly invite you to our Reception assembly on Wednesday at 1:50pm and our Parents and Friends evening on Friday at 7:00pm. It looks to be a fantastic night!

Cyber Safety

Last Tuesday was Safer Internet Day, a worldwide event that supports the positive use of digital technology. The key message encourages us to develop four critical skills called the 4Rs: Respect: I treat myself and others the way I like to be treated, Responsibility: I am accountable for my actions and I take a stand when I feel something is wrong, Reasoning: I question what is real and Resilience: I get back up from tough situations.

As our Year four, five and six students receive their laptops these messages are extremely valuable. Teachers will work closely with students in developing their cyber safety awareness and we encourage parents to continue the conversation at home. Please come and see us if you have any concerns surrounding cyber safety and social media.

Michael Grose

This week’s article titled ‘Language of Independence Building’ explores twelve examples of building language as a family to foster independence in our young kids. Michael Grose includes practical examples of fostering and creating a culture of independence. All very important life long skills.

Some include:

Never regularly do for a child the things a child can do for him/herself. This in fact fosters the goal of INDEPENDENCE.
Asking which of these TWO would you prefer?  fosters the goal of DECISION MAKING.
Asking how do you feel about this? fosters the goal of EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE.
Is this something you can do yourself? fosters the goal of SELF HELP.

From the APRIM

‘May your hands be forever clasped in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love.’ Traditional Irish Blessing..

Have you noticed how much the word “love” is used in the Bible?  The Bible is the perfect resource to go to when you’re looking for ways to love others but it’s also full of romantic love notes for you to share with your loved one. The Song of Solomon or Song of Songs as it may be called is a book in the Old Testament and has chapters full of love. The language is beautiful, figurative and, at times, quite explicit. Not at all what you might expect in the Bible. I was quite surprised and even blushed a little!  You might like to look at these Printable scripture Valentine's notes

May God bless you and your Valentine,
