Thriving People, Capable Learners, Leaders for the World God Desires

Catholic Education Week 2019 runs from Monday June 3 to Sunday June 9 2019.

Catholic Education Week is a great opportunity to highlight the wonderful things that are happening in every one of our schools.

Our Living Learning Leading Framework...

The Living, Learning Leading framework gives us a foundation for understanding what we do in Catholic Education – who we are, what we value and how we partner with our families to ensure our students thrive.

At the heart of our framework is our commitment to our students and our understanding of all people – we see them as ‘thriving people, capable learners, leaders for the world God desires.’

The Living, Learning, Leading Framework underpins everything we do, ensuring our students develop the knowledge, skills and attributes they need to thrive in a rapidly changing and complex world.

We invite you to watch the following video explaining the Leading, Living, Learning vision.

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends

This week’s newsletter marks the end of Week 6 and we find ourselves well and truly over the half way mark of term. The early mornings have a crispness about them, indicating that winter has certainly arrived. In the midst of the chilly mornings, school life continues to be exciting and full of fun experiences. Over the last few weeks several classes have ventured out of the school on excursions to the Dream Big Festival, the Botanic Gardens, the Farm Barn and others have ventured on camp to Glenhaven. Our older students have been involved in various SAPSASA sports events and carnivals and our Cross Country runners spent a successful day at Oakbank running through fields and creek beds Thank you to the many parents who help out so generously with supervision on excursions and help provide transport when groups are too small for buses.

National Reconciliation Week

AFL Football has certainly helped to raise the awareness of our responsibility towards healing and reconciliation with what has become known as the Indigenous Round. The various guernsey designs of the AFL teams including our own Crows and Power jumpers helps to raise awareness and curiosity with regard to National Reconciliation Week. National Reconciliation Week (NRW) is celebrated across Australia each year between 27 May and 3 June. The dates commemorate two significant milestones in Australia's reconciliation journey - the anniversaries of the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision. This past week has been a time for all Australians to reflect on our past and to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can join the national reconciliation effort. As a school community, we have recognised and have celebrated NRW Week in our classrooms and in class prayers. At the Year 3 assembly the children used the Welcome to Country. This week the Marine Discovery Centre was visited by three APY Land elders who have never seen the ocean and walked on a beach. It was quite moving to see their delight over something we take for granted. I am sure there were numerous other activities happening in classes throughout the school this week, all of which helped us to be aware of this significant occasion.

From the APRIM

“Without wonder, faith, like life, becomes grey and routine.” Pope Francis ✔@Pontifex

This photo of a Year 6 students reading to littlies during ‘Action Groups,’ a weekly time of service from our senior students to the school community, illustrates the richness of life here at Star of the Sea.

The season of Easter concludes with today's celebration, the feast of Pentecost. Jesus gave the disciples the gift of the Holy Spirit to help them spread his message of peace and forgiveness. This event marks the beginning of the Church. I’m sure you would agree with me that our vibrant school community is filled with the Holy Spirit and the living embodiment of the church today.

Pentecost encourages us to be peacemakers, so, during this long weekend, stay patient and safe on the roads, reach out to others with friendship and peace and hug your loved ones. If you feel troubled now is the time to reach out to someone who will listen; sometimes that is the hardest thing to do, to take the first step, but a trouble shared. Remember we can pray to the Holy Spirit to help and guide us. Watch this video to brighten your day Convivencia

“Jesus came and stood among the disciples. “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.” And with that he breathed on them and said “Receive the Holy Spirit.” John 20:19-22.
