Mid-Year Reception Students

As Term 3 approaches we are very excited to welcome our mid-year Reception students and their families to Star of the Sea School. Transition to school experiences are designed to support children, families and teachers to build supportive relationships and become familiar with changing environments and experiences. This term our new Term 3 Reception children have been at Little Stars experiencing school and learning lots of new things. This week they graduated with their ‘School Ready’ diplomas and can’t wait to be at Star of the Sea next term. Thank you Tania  Condelli and Laura Artis for running a great transition to school program and for making sure our new Receptions will be ready for all school life has to offer. Mrs Hinge and Mrs Hetherington can’t wait! This Saturday's Advertiser will be running a feature article on Noah and Sheena Pattinson. Keep an eye out for it.

From the Principal

Dear Parents and Friends,

We have again reached the end of another busy term. The last ten weeks have just flown by and with the passing of each week much has been accomplished.  I can report that Term 2 has indeed been fulfilling, with many learning experiences, celebrations and social highlights. Taking a moment to reflect on all we have achieved, a number of significant activities and events leap from the pages of my diary. Sacramental meetings, workshops and celebrations; class Masses and Liturgies, class projects, excursions and camps, SAPSASA sports, weekend and afternoon school sports, Netball carnivals, Dance Concerts and much, much more – it is easy to understand why we all feel a little tired and deserving of a holiday break to recharge the batteries!

I would like to thank all of our parents for the great job you do ensuring the children are ready for school each morning with clean uniforms, homework done; recess and lunches packed and prepared for a full day of learning fun. At Star of the Sea we value the wonderful work you do and are appreciative of the support we receive.

All You Need Is Love

Last night the Year 5 and 6 families, friends and staff were treated to a most uplifting night of dance and music at the Christian Centre, Seaton.

The students have been taking part in dance lessons all term with dance teachers from ACPA.

It was wonderful to see our students dancing and enjoying themselves. The Year 5 and 6 Dance Concert is a biannual event and is designed to not only promote dance as an art form but also to promote in our older students life skills such as commitment, teamwork, collaboration, grit, persistence and problem solving.

Driving home last night I was very proud of every single student. My thanks also to our Year 5 and 6 teachers who skilfully put together an amazing program complete with video footage and music.

Well done to all!

Carly Ryan Foundation

We’ve had a request from the Carly Ryan Foundation to move our Parent Online Safety Evening Session only (Student session date and times remain unchanged) as Sonya Ryan has been invited to the State Dinner to celebrate 125 years of women's suffrage on Tuesday 6 August 2019.

Therefore, we would like to advise all community members that the Online Safety Presentation with Sonya Ryan has been moved to Thursday August 8th 2019. The evening will still be held in the Marine Discovery Centre at 7pm.

The support for the Parent Session has been overwhelming with 50% of tickets already sold. The tickets already acquired will be accepted for the rescheduled event date 8/8/19 and no action is required.

You can book tickets for this free community event online.

We believe that rescheduling this event to enable Sonya to visit our community is worthwhile and trust that you are able to make the necessary arrangements to attend.

From the APRIM

‘Peace to this house and all who dwell within.’

Queenie McKenzie's artwork is the theme image for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Sunday on 7th July.

In the hustle and bustle of each day it can be hard to stop, breathe and relax, letting days unfold without competing priorities and chasing the clock. I hope that the holidays will provide you with the chance to enjoy special cosy, winter, family times together; with time to enjoy a movie, a coffee or a family holiday.

NAIDOC week is celebrated around Australia from the 7th – 14th of July. As a Wimbledon follower it is so exciting to see Ashleigh Barty, our tennis ace, compete and celebrate her Indigenous heritage.

The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Catholic Council hope you can find peace in your busy life and celebrate God’s message of peace and love for all with your family and friends. Their dream is that all Australian Catholics come together in every Parish and School in this great Southern land as one people in Christ.

May God Bless you and keep you safe these holidays.

Prayer of the Aboriginal People

Father of all,

You gave us the Dreaming,

You have spoken to us through our beliefs,

You then made Your love clear to us in the person of Jesus

We thank You for Your care. You own us, You are our hope.

Make us strong as we face the problems of change.

We ask You to help the people of Australia to listen to us and respect our culture.

Make the knowledge of You grow strong in all people,

So that You can be at home in us and we can make a home for everyone in our land.

Amen

Prepared by Aboriginal people for Pope John Paul II’s visit to Alice Springs 1986
