Beyond the Classroom

Mandarin Language Class

The Mandarin Language and culture class has been running after school at Star of the Sea for 7 years continuously and has become a feature of the school’s offerings. Our classes are held on Monday afternoons after school until 4:45pm. We learn language, poems and songs in Mandarin and participate in the principal annual celebrations such as Lunar New Year and the Moon (Lantern) Festival.

Enrolments are still open for the class of 2021 for any students that would be interested in enjoying this cultural experience, please contact Angel Zhang on 0425 226285 or at angelmandarin555@gmail.com

Beach activities

Henley Beach is integrated into our school life. We use the beach often for lessons – and other learning opportunities.

We are committed to teaching our children about their responsibility to protect our marine environment and we use Marine Discovery Centre to help us in this process.

Children's University 2021

The Children's University Program offers educational experiences for children in Years 3 - 6 and recognises their achievements outside of our school through the award of formal certificates and graduations.

The Children's University Program has been running at Star of the Sea since 2016 and utilises local educational and learning activity providers (including museums, sports clubs, galleries, social clubs, etc). It has a strong emphasis on experience as a learning tool, acknowledging the value of the range of different learning experiences and environments in which children engage.

Each child is issued with a Passport to Learning in which the hours of each validated activity are recorded. Once they have reached the required number of hours, children will graduate from the Children's University. Certificates are presented at graduation ceremonies usually held on the grounds of the University of Adelaide.

Registrations is via our school QKR! app at the start of each year and activities can be recorded throughout the year up to graduation which is normally held in November.
