Year 6 Graduation Assembly

Dear Parents and Friends,

This week’s newsletter is the last for the 2019 school year and in just under three weeks we will be celebrating Christmas. This year we have experienced exceptional moments, magical moments and created memories that will be fondly remembered in the years ahead. As we look back over the 2019 school year there have been many wonderful experiences of learning and teaching - undeniably we have had a successful year.

The new building continues to take shape and we begin to see glimpses of what the new classrooms will be like when we move in next year. Thank you for your patience and understanding as the builders close off access areas. I know closures have been an inconvenience but the benefits will be worth it.

As Christmas approaches, it provides a window of opportunity when we manage to put life’s events into some perspective. It is that time when we do our own reckoning and weigh up, ‘what has happened’ and ‘what might have happened’? This time of year is a time when we learn that priorities are not just about the New Year’s resolutions and big decisions, but priorities are about the little decisions we make which become cumulative and say where our heart really lies.

As we find ourselves in the Advent season, a time for preparation and waiting, there is an opportunity, regardless of our age, to step back and to evaluate the priorities which we live out in our daily choices. We have a chance to take stock and feel the gentle nudgings of the Spirit.

So, as the festive season approaches, I hope you will have the opportunity to be attentive to the inner voice, the voice which calls us to see the new born Jesus in each other, so that we may reorder our priorities and put people, not things first and to give first call to our families.

Class Placements 2019

Today, all children visited their new classes for 2019. There was a great deal of excitement and anticipation leading up to the visits and everyone seemed in a happy mood, seeing and meeting their new teacher and class mates for next year. The teachers have worked extensively on providing the best possible outcomes for class placements and I wish to thank them for their considerations, displaying a continued deep knowledge of the child. Reports will be distributed on Monday 10th December. There should be no surprises in the final report, however, the invitation stands, that if any family wishes to discuss the outcome of their child's second semester report, I encourage you to organise a suitable time with your child's current teacher.

Congratulations to Alesha Candeloro and Zara Jenkinson from Yr 3.  Alesha and Zara competed at the Australian National Cheerleading Championships in Melbourne. Their cheer team, Junior 1 “Bombers”, placed 5th out of 21 teams and HIT ZERO!  This means they didn’t lose any points because they didn’t make any mistakes!
Junior 1 “Bombers” were the only SA team to place in this massive division. Well done Alesha and Zara that is a great achievement

2020 Sport Registrations

Registrations for 2020 Cricket, Basketball, Netball, Chess and Swimming Carnival have now closed.  Please note students who registered for Chess, this will begin Thursday Wk 2, Term1.  All teams will be sent out first week back if not before and Swimming Carnival information will be put up on Skoolbag App, first week back. 

Can you believe, we have already come to the end of 2019! How quickly time flies when you are having fun.  Thank you to all parents who have helped out with sport this year, whether you have taken on the role of team manager or coach in an after school sport, helped out at carnivals as a team manager / coach, official, supervision of students or whether you have helped out with training and timings.  Thank you to all of you, without your endless support I would not be able to involve the students in all the sport that we take part in.  To those families who are leaving us, good luck and thank you once again for the support that you have given both myself and to school sport.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and a great 2020.

Wow, our final newsletter for 2019. I take this opportunity to wish all of our Star of the Sea community  members a very holy, happy and safe Christmas break. I look forward to seeing everyone back at school in 2020. 

Our exciting carols night is tomorrow and the students are thoroughly excited to present their song and carols to you. 

A friendly reminder that rugs and chairs can be laid on the Oval from 3pm. Barbecue items will be available on the night as well.

Pre-carols night entertainment will be in from 5.45pm and children will need to be in their classrooms at 6:10pm.

Please remember parking restrictions in the area and please refrain from parking across local residents driveways.

We are looking forward to a fantastic evening and seeing all of our community members here

Children are encouraged to come dressed as a nativity character.

Anyone who would like to be part of the children’s choir please come along to practice the songs:

Sunday 24 November and Sunday 1 December during Children’s Liturgy Of the Word at 9.30am Mass.

Children who would like to read, welcome families or have a special job during the mass, please add your name to the sign up sheet at the back of the Church from Sunday 24 November 2019.

This year Amelie, Natessa, Tahlia, Maya, Jade, Mia and Zara.W from 4L were asked by our science teacher Mr Hoskin, to do something called rainfall recording. Rain falls into it and after recess we check and record the measurement onto a chart.

We do rain gauge recording, to keep track of all the rain we get.

The biggest amount of rain we got was in June. It was 50mls+. In July our biggest amount was 25mls. In July it was 11mls and in September it was 4mls.
