Parent Information Meeting @ 9am

Wednesday 20 November 2024

At our School Board meeting on Monday, we focused on the development of our school’s external spaces, especially our Oval and Playground. This will remain a key topic as we move into 2025. We’re excited to share that our students will soon have the opportunity to contribute their ideas for the future design of our playground—an initiative we’re sure they’ll enjoy!

Gala 2025: The School Board also discussed plans for our 2025 Star Gala. We look forward to consulting with families to gather ideas that will help make the evening a memorable success for our entire school community.

We had the pleasure of 5 former Star of the Sea students come to visit us. Charlotte, Alex, Olivia, Gabby and Hudson are all preparing to finish their High School journey in the upcoming weeks and wanted to come back to Star as a way of remembering and honouring their entire educational journey, by coming back to the place where it all started.

As the students were walking through the new buildings and reminiscing about their time here, one of the students said that she couldn’t get the smile off her face as the memories she has of Star were so heartwarming. Hudson even wore his old Star of the Sea hat.

As part of their visit, they reconnected with former teachers and spoke with our Year 6 students about the challenges and highlights of finishing Primary School and preparing to go into High School.

Their visit was a reminder of the amazing impact our primary school years has on our students. We are all blessed to be part of this wonderful community.

They got very excited when they saw the friendship bench they had painted and donated as part of their graduation.

Congratulations to Kristen Victory on being recognized for 10 years of dedicated service to SACPSSA! Your hard work and commitment to the Catholic sporting community have made a lasting impact. Here’s to many more years of service and success—well done, Kristen!

Good sleep has great benefits!

Sleep is like magic for babies and children! It:

  • Restores Energy: Sleep helps kids feel strong and ready for the day ahead. It's like recharging their batteries!
  • Boosts Learning: When babies and children sleep, their brains get supercharged, helping them remember things better and learn new stuff faster.
  • Keeps Them Healthy: Sleep makes their bodies strong and helps fight off germs and illness. It's like putting on a superhero suit for their immune system!
  • Helps Them Grow: Did you know that children grow when they sleep? It's true! Their bodies make a special growth hormone while they snooze.

Children Need Different Sleep at Different Ages:

  • Babies need lots of sleep because they're growing super-fast.
  • As children get older, they need a bit less sleep, but it's still super important.
  • Sleep changes as kids grow too! Babies sleep a lot during the day, but as they get bigger, they snooze more at night like grown-ups.

How much sleep?  At Raisingchildren.net.au we learn that:

  • Newborns sleep on and off during the day and night. They sleep for 14-17 hours in every 24 hours.
  • Babies 3-6 months usually sleep for 12-15 hours in every 24 hours.
  • Toddlers need 11-14 hours of sleep every 24 hours. Usually this is a sleep of 10-12 hours a night, and a nap of 1-2 hours during the day.
  • Children aged 3-5 years need 10-13 hours of sleep a night.
  • Children aged 5-11 years need 9-11 hours of sleep a night.
  • Teenagers generally need about 8-10 hours of sleep a night.

Adults?  We need good sleep too and 8 hours a night is a good amount.  Sleeping well helps us concentrate,  cope with life’s stressors, and more easily make plans and decisions.

If your child is sick.....

Unfortunately, children are sick from time to time and not in a condition to be at school, possibly sharing illness with others. We appreciate that it can be difficult to make a decision as a parent to determine if your child is ‘sick enough’ to stay away from school. We have had several students unwell this week and ask for your support to keep your child home until they are fit to be back at school.

Piano Exam Results

I am very proud of the 4 students who worked hard to achieve such excellent results in their grade 2 and grade 3 piano exams at Adelaide University last week.

They are: Sophia, Chloe, Leo and Hannah Reader (now at Nazareth school).

Well done
