June 2018 Meeting

21.06.18

The School Board welcomed Peter Smith from the Catholic Education Office and Pino Dichiera the school’s Architect to the meeting. Both Peter and Pino made presentations focussing on the processes and procedures that are in place to ensure the Master Plan and Stage 1 building development identifies all building risks and to ensure the school is able to achieve the best possible outcome with budget we have.

Pino Dichiera presented a sketch plan and initial draft plans of what Stage 1 might look like. Further consultation with the staff and the school community will take place before more detailed drawings are presented. The School Board is committed to making sure the new building design meets our teaching and learning needs and addresses the issue of disability access and student flow. We look forward to sharing drawings and designs with the school community in the near future.

Joe presented the plans for the refurbishment of the Marine Discovery Centre using the $170,000 Fund My Neighbourhood grant. The Board gave approval for the refurbishment to take place during the October Holidays. The refurbishment will include the complete interior paint of the MDC, the construction of a Sea Cave display using the aquariums, the construction of a Kaurna Wadali and indigenous learning zone, new cabinetry, signage and furniture and other associated works. Phillip Pilkington Architects will project manage the refurbishment.

Joe presented the first draft of the school’s Strategic Plan 2018-2020. The key strategic areas consist of 5 pillars for development.

  • Catholic Identity and Mission
  • Learning, Teaching and Wellbeing
  • Community
  • Resource and Infrastructure
  • Environment and Sustainability

Joe explained how the Strategic Plan incorporates both the Catholic Education SA Strategic Vision for Leading, Learning, Living and the school’s Vision for Learning. He asked for feedback and indicated he will seek further feedback from staff and the school community.

The next meeting of the School Board will be in Term 3, Monday 13 August.
