From the Principal

20.06.19

Dear Parents and Friends,

The Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a very special day in the life of our Parish and School. It is a  special day for our Priests and one of the charisms our school takes inspiration from - the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart. Many of you would be aware that each and every Friday our whole school stops at 9.10am for ‘Heart Moments’. This silent, reflective time is one of the ways we celebrate and live out Heart Spirituality at Star of the Sea.

Next Friday 28th June we celebrate the Feast of the Scared Heart of Jesus with a whole school Mass. Mass was to be celebrated at 11.15am and is advertised at that time on our Term Calendar. However, we have had to move Mass to 9.15am and it will be celebrated with the Parish. I warmly invite parents and friends to join us for what is always a joyous celebration. The Star Outreach will be serving morning tea and a cuppa after Mass.

Super Hero Friday

Next Friday the children are asked to dress up as a 'Super Hero' as an SRC fundraising initiative for overseas MSC Missions. The SRC are charging a gold coin donation. As usual I am sure families will enter into the spirit of the occasion and use the opportunity to challenge the creative juices. We are certainly not expecting families to go to any expense for costumes and to think of using the kids dress up box. Fr John is aware that we will be at Mass dressed as super heroes and is looking forward to seeing all 500+ of us. I wonder if there is a Guinness Book of Records for the most number of super heroes at Mass.

First Semester Reports

The teachers have been very busy writing their learning summaries for the first semester. The reports will be sent home on Tuesday 2nd July. As always I encourage parents to read the report with their children and to take time to highlight and encourage those areas of growth and successful learning. It is also important to discuss those areas that need further development and to set goals for Term 3 and 4. Please speak with your child’s teacher should you need clarification or additional information.

Children Arriving Early

The cold winter mornings have been quite icy and I have noticed children arriving to school at or before 8.20am, some as early as 8.00am and not reporting to Before School Care. I remind parents that the school has a duty of care for all children on the school grounds. Whilst staff members are on site, they are busy preparing for the school day or at meetings and they are not required to be on duty until 8.20am. Should you need to drop your children at school before 8.20am due to work commitments etc, please ensure they are in OSHC so they can be supervised. Any child found at school without supervision will be sent to OSHC in accordance with school policy. The school Library is open for morning reading and borrowing at 8.30am

Vacation Care Filling Fast

As always our Vacation Care is very popular. As you may be aware, we are obliged to open our Vacation Care to all in the local community. As a consequence our Vac Care fills very quickly, especially on excursion or incursion days. Please book a place urgently if you need this service during the holidays.

School Finishes on Friday 29 June

The end of Term will be Friday 5th July. This will be a full day at school. School resumes for Term 3 on Tuesday 23rd July. Monday will be a pupil free day when the staff will be updating their BELLS First Aid qualifications. Vacation Care will be available for families needing the service.

Enjoy the weekend ahead!
